Learning from each other

Intercultural and interdisciplinary research workshop as an investigation for the definition of a number of potential projects concerning the urban area of the city of Marrakech.

Purpose and challenge

Intercultural and interdisciplinary research workshop as an investigation for the definition of a number of potential projects concerning the urban area of the city of Marrakech. The main goal of the workshop was the project finding and mapping. The interdisciplinary teams of students from École Supérieure des Arts Visuels de Marrakech (ESAV), Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), University of the Arts Berlin (UDK), and Köln International School of Design (KISD) were realizing different projects.

The aim of the project

The project was based on the idea of a systematic analysis of the current territory of Marrakech. The goal was to identify a number of projects in order to contribute, at different levels, in a constructive way to the quality of life, environment, and culture in Marrakech. The common objective of all projects was the economical, social, and cultural relevance.

“I really appreciated the experience of this inter-cultural project setting to know a culture from a very different angle”

Max Hoffmann, KISD

“I find Marrakech is in real need of such projects”

Hamza Essalouh, ESAV

“Our school should encourage more often such projects where interdisciplinary and multicultural experiences are involved”
